Baptisms
A baptism begins with a series of blessings and prayers to remove original sin followed by a confession of faith. Water will then be used as a symbol of purification and rebirth. Children will have water sprinkled on their forehead. Adults may choose to be sprinkled on their forehead with water or be submerged in water. Baptisms can be performed in any standing body of water such as a lake, river, or a swimming pool.
Baby Naming Ceremonies
A baby naming ceremony is a personalized and relaxed alternative to traditional celebrations like a christening, bris or zeved habat (aka a Jewish baby naming ceremony for girls). Family and friends gather to celebrate the baby’s birth and welcome him or her into the world. It’s an opportunity to announce your child’s name (and its meaning) surrounded by loved ones.
Pet Memorials
Holding a funeral or memorial service for your pet is a wonderful way to honor your furry (or feathered or scaled), companion. The process of creating a memorial service can be particularly helpful for some children. Consider having your entire family involved in the ceremony.
House Blessing
This service is used to bless and protect a new home, or to honor a new stage in life, such as following a wedding or marriage ceremony. Options include a Christian house prayer ceremony, ‘Bread, Salt, and Wine’ blessing, and Native American spiritual cleansing smudging.

A christening is a religious ceremony where a child is given a name before Christ and baptized. It is an official term for naming ceremonies. It is mainly performed on young children. Some parents will postpone the baptizing part until the child is old enough to understand the difference.
A baptism is a Christian religious sacrament and is a form of initiation. It consists of embracing the faith and is performed by immersing, pouring, or sprinkling water on the person getting baptized; it is a symbol of washing away the sins of the believer. An ordained minister or member of the clergy states the baptism as complete in the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost’s name.
